Morrison could punch, but he sure as hell couldn't take one. His chin let him down in most of his big fights. I fault his handlers for lining him up with too many journey man fighters. He padded his record real good, but at some point they should've started stepping up his level of competition so they would really know where he was as a fighter before putting him in the ring with world-class competitors. He needed help with his defense and his people never brought in a defensive specialist to help him bridge the gap like a Floyd Mayweather, Sr or a Curtis Cokes. He was trying to outbox boxers instead of throwing KO punches. They didn't put him in the best position to succeed. No fault of his own. He did the best that he could. RIP, Tommy Morrison aka Tommy " Gunn. "

Besides his substance abuse and partying lifestyle, Tommy's biggest mistake was taking the Mercer fight. I posted this in another thread - we were in Vegas for another fight just weeks before the Mercer fight, and Morrison came in to where we were having dinner. He knew one of the guys at our table, and came over to say hello. He was clearly inebriated, and had a small entourage with him. One of the guys at the table asked him, light-heartedly, so as not to seem confrontational: "Shouldn't you be training for the Mercer fight?" Tommy answered something to the tune of "man, I'm feeling great, don't you worry..." He still had a bit of a protruding belly, and he grabbed it mockingly with both hands and laughed. After he walked away, the guy who asked him about training just looked down and said "Man, Mercer is no joke..." My heart broke watching that fight because it was literally the END of "what coulda been".

I think if he hadn't gotten caught up in the life of drugs and alcohol, Tommy could of been one of the GOAT. I truly think if he had honed his skills and stayed away from partying, he would of given Tyson a great fight, not saying he would of won, but it would of been one for the ages.

Tommy Morrison was the Caucasian Iron Mike. One of the greatest punches in boxing at 9:49 That hurt Odum physically _and_ mentally! Probably still has nightmares about it. I mean, how tough do you have to be to WIN a fight with a broken jaw? Tommy was a bad dude.

Thank you for uploading this. Tommy is still one of my all time favourite boxers, he never was In a dull fight. That left hook is still one of the best to grace the sport, even to this very day! Shame how it all ended, seems to me money and fame also got in the way of his training, just like it did to iron Mike. His sons are now into boxing and I hope they have a successful career just like Tommy and learn from his mistakes. People who gave this video a dislike, you have serious mental problems.

OMG, I swore TYSON was the greatest and he very well may be and I thought "Tommy would not be able to play defense as well against Iron Mike" however was I wrong Tommy just LIKE Tyson mixed up his defense with offensive, they are the same in nearly every level and who knows who would of WON.....Tommy had some scary POWER as did Tyson, whoever was having the better day or lucky enough to connect first?.... Nah, I think whoever of them could EAT more punishment would of WON and its as simple as this.... The question is, is that the great white hope or Iron Mike..... I always enjoyed watching the Duke. He was tough as nails and just kept throwing punches no matter what. So sorry he lost to his demons later in life but I still remember him as a champ.
